Dundee is a great little town to use as centre for visiting the battlefields area of KwaZulu Natal (KZN), and Johann is the ideal person to show you around, you would be hard pressed to find a better one. At the time of writing (June 2014) I’ve visited Dundee three times, staying at the B&B (History’s Walk) that Johann and Michele his wife own. During those visits I've been on several tours to the more remote battlefields and areas of KZN with Johann and none of the trips have disappointed. He knows his stuff, knowledgeable and informative, and willing to answer any and all questions as best he can. Spioenkop, to give it its South African spelling, is my favourite and well worth visiting as it was an important battle in the Anglo/Boer war of 1899-1902., and is one that Johann can show and tell you everything you would wish to know. KZN is steeped in the history of various conflicts - Boer/Zulu, Anglo/Zulu and Anglo/Boer wars, all of which Johann can show you and also tell you some of the bits that the history books have left out !
