I have been trekking with Glacier Family Trek since 2007 and did that at no less than six occasions. In 2007, to hike from Biretanti up to Muktinat in Lower Mustang, in times when the road was not available, just in construction. In 2011, I visited the Upper Mustang at Christmas time. At that time, I swore I would come back in summer, what I did in 2014. In the meantime, in 2013, I took a trek to the Tsum Valley and around the Manaslu. In 2015, I visited the lower Dolpo, to the Rara Lake and then up to Mugu. And, finally, I was again in the foothills of the Annapurnas in a trek called the trek des Rhodos, with the goal to hike through the rhododendron forests at a time the trees were blooming. I wish, I would be able to go back for more hiking in Himalayan valleys that I dream to visit.

Glacier Family Treks has too many qualities to be described in such a review. I will therefore focus on two characteristics: the flexibility of the program and the friendliness of Dilu Rai, the organizer and the sirdar of all the treks. Flexibility means no route is set in stone. Of course, the planning is carefully made, but if anything happens that requires modification, the plan can be adapted, with, of course, the agreement of the participants. This can be, for instance, an unexpected will to stop for a day at a pleasant place, the poor health of a participant or in contrast the too full of energy of the team, This is made possible by the second quality of Dil, the friendliness with which he deals with the local population. Finding a new place to sleep, to have a meal or an afternoon tea, appears like something natural. Knocking on the wooden door of a small residence and chatting for a moment with the hostess and voilà. With the result that trekkers can come into contact with the natives, see them at work or preparing the meals, in a relaxed atmosphere. When such conditions are fulfilled, remain the atmosphere of these villages, close to the Tibetan border, the magnificence of the landscapes, the majesty of the Hmalayan peaks. What else do you want !!!
