Let me start off by saying that I have become friends with Angel over the last 5 years. We have known each other since I reached out to him about a birding site around 2014. When I first met him face to face the following year, I was extremely impressed with his birding skills at that time. Since then, his skills have matured greatly. We have stayed in touch and I have tried to help Angel to develop in every way that I can.

During my recent visit to the Yucatan in 2019, I had the pleasure of spending a weekend with him birding the northern part of the region, where he demonstrated a deep understanding of the birds. His eyesight and ear are fantastic in detecting and identifying the birds. We were able to find Middle-American Screech Owl, Yucatan Poorwill and Yucatan Nightjar thanks to his knowledge of natural history of the region and understanding of the ranges of the birds we sought out. I can honestly say, that without him, I would have not found any of those birds.

Being a Myan, we passed the hours during our travels with Angel educating me about the practices of his people and their culture. Angel is proud of his heritage and he is eager to share his knowledge with everyone that he meets. His connections to the local villages of his family near Valladolid allows him to personally and intinately share their culture away from the commercial sites often visited by other tours.  I have taken a tour of the southern Yucatan with him in the past and his knowledge of the sites that we visited there was also outstanding

He is warm, humble and patient. All great attributes in an educator. I would highly recommend Angel to anyone wishing to hire a guide in the region.
