The journey also includes time to enjoy the hot springs of Cono before returning to Cusco.

Known as the sister of Machu Picchu, Choquequirao is three times bigger than Machu Picchu and is the other lost city of the Incas, discovered in the 20th century.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Cusco to Capuliyoc and Rosalinda Beach Camp

  • At 4:30 am, our guide will pick you up from the hotel, and in our private transport, we will travel to Capuliyoc, located at 2850 masl (9407 ft).
  • From here, we will pack and start our walk with our riders and horses. You should only carry a small backpack with the essentials for the road.
  • Throughout the journey, we will enjoy beautiful and picturesque landscapes surrounded by mountains, snow-capped peaks, and farm fields. From here, we will see the snowy Padreyoc at 5571 meters above sea level.
  • From Capuliyoc, we will begin the descent to Chikisca, where lunch awaits us.
  • In the afternoon, we will continue to Playa Rosalinda at 2061 masl, where we will set up our first camp and then enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 02

Rosalinda Beach to Marampata and Choquequirao Camp

  • We will have breakfast at dawn and then start our walk of approximately 4 hours to Marampata, where a delicious lunch awaits us. Enjoy a beautiful view of Choquequirao.
  • After lunch, about 20 minutes away, our second camp is located very close to the Choquequirao Archaeological Center.

Day 03

Full-Day Exploration of Choquequirao

  • After breakfast, together with our guide, we will visit the Archaeological Site of Choquequirao for the whole day. Known as the sister of Machu Picchu, Choquequirao is three times bigger than Machu Picchu and is the other lost city of the Incas, discovered in the 20th century. It is located 1750 meters above the Apurimac River, surrounded by snow-capped mountains like Salkantay and Nevado Humantay.
  • After the tour, we will return to our camp, where lunch and drinks await us.

Day 04

Choquequirao to San Ignacio and Villa de Loros

  • After breakfast, we will start downhill until we reach the Apurímac River, then continue to our next destination, San Ignacio, where we will have lunch and enjoy beautiful landscapes.
  • Then we will continue uphill to Villa María de Los Lobos, where we will set up our camp.

Day 05

Villa de Loros to Saywite, Cono Hot Springs and Cusco

  • After breakfast, we will leave for the archaeological center of Saywite.
  • Continue to the hot springs of Cono and relax the body in its thermal medicinal waters.
  • After lunch in Cono, we will start the return trip to the city of Cusco and drop you off at the hotel.
