Drive from Cusco to Cachora and begin a rewarding trek to the historical Archaeological Complex of Choquequirao. Along the route, pass beautiful snow-capped peaks, descend into the Apurímac Valley, and reach Rosalina Beach before climbing to Maranpata and Sunchupata, where you can admire the breathtaking vegetation and mountain scenery. Explore the highlights of the Archaeological Site of Choquequirao and learn about the importance of this lost city of the Incas.

After breakfast, we will go to Choquequirao to appreciate the sunrise.

Day by day

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Cusco to Cachora and Trek to Chiquisqa

  • We leave Cusco at 6:00 am and travel to the town of Cachora (3100 masl), arriving at approximately 10:00 am.
  • Here, we will meet the horses and muleteers, and this is where we will begin our hike along a gently sloping path.
  • On the way, we will enjoy the first views of the snowy Padrayoc (5,482 m) and Wayna Cachora, with a short break at the Capuliyoc Pass (2900 m).
  • From here, we will have a panoramic view of the Apurímac Valley, then descend while appreciating the beautiful warm-climate landscape until we arrive at Chiquisqa (1930 m.a.s.l.).

Day 02

Chiquisqa to Rosalina Beach and Sunchupata Camp

  • After breakfast at 5:00 am, we will continue our hike towards Rosalina Beach (1550 masl).
  • Then, we will climb the slope towards Santa Rosa (2100 masl), where we will have lunch. This is the most arduous part of the route.
  • After that, we ascend to Maranpata (2850 masl). This is a gentler climb, and during the journey, you can appreciate the entire route from the first day as well as the vegetation that exists in this place.
  • Next, we will walk along a straight stretch towards Sunchupata, appreciating the vegetation that exists in this area.
  • We will continue in the direction of Sunchupata, where we will have dinner and camp. From this point, Choquequirao is a one-hour walk away.

Day 03

Sunrise at Choquequirao and Return to Chiquisqa

  • After breakfast, we will go to Choquequirao to appreciate the sunrise.
  • We will visit the citadel for three hours, accompanied by the guide, who will explain this important Inca refuge and the importance of the Apurímac and Río Blanco rivers. We can also appreciate the Vilcabamba mountain range.
  • Next, we will begin the return to Sunchupata and descend to Rosalina Beach via Santa Rosa.
  • Finally, we will continue to the town of Chiquisqa and camp.

Day 04

Chiquisqa to Capuliyoc, Cachora and Cusco

  • After a delicious breakfast in Chiquisqa at 06:00 am, we return along the same road to reach the Capuliyoc Pass.
  • We will arrive in the town of Cachora at approximately 12:00 pm. On the way, we will appreciate the exotic flora and fauna of the area, as well as views of towering snow-capped mountains and the impressive Apurímac Canyon.
  • Finally, we continue to the city of Cusco, arriving at the hotel in the afternoon.
