Itinerary
-
Day 1: Fes - Ifrane - Azrou - Midelt - Merzouga
Depart from Fes at 8 o'clock, travelling via Azrou, where you can see Barbary apes in the forest of the Middle Atlas. And Switzerland of Morocco and the cedar forests of Azrou where you can stop to hand feed the monkeys.
Eat lunch in Midelt, “the apple capital”.
Continue over the Tizi-n-Talgoumt pass and through the Ziz Valley, which is particularly well-known for its palm trees and the length of the oasis. There are innumerable “ksars”, small villages of individual houses, all along the road.
From here, reach Er Rachidia and then Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils.
In the afternoon, prepare for departure on the camels.
Once at the bivouac, you take a camel ride to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes.
Head back to the Bivouac for dinner and overnight in tents at the camp.
-
Day 2: Merzouga - Toudgha Gorges - Dades Canyon
If you wake up early, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight.
After breakfast, you can walk in the dunes before leaving for the Toudgha Gorges for lunch. The road passes through Tinjdad and the Toudgha Valley. Here, there are plenty of opportunities to walk, such as along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges.
Later the itinerary continues to the Dades Valley and the Dades Gorges for the night inside the big canyon of Dades (Guest House).
-
Day 3: Dades Canyon - Ouarzazate - Ksar Ait Bet Haddou - Marrakech
Take a morning walk in the Gorge and follow the Dades Valley through El Kelaa Magona and the oasis of Skoura with your Morocco tour guide. The route goes to Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a World Heritage site and the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters, and it is the most famous Ksar in Morocco.
The road continues to Telouet, along the newly asphalted road. Telouet is set right amid the mountains and was once the seat of the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui, from where the highest pass in Africa, Tizi-n-Tichka, was controlled.
