Description

Challenge yourselves to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal on this hike that begins with a transfer to Imlil. Pass by scenic villages and cross a river on this trek that requires that the hikers be in good shape. The final climb to the summit is 3-hour long but is a rewarding one.

  • Day 1 - Marrakech to Imlil Refuge expand_more
    • Start the hike from Imlil 1741m passing over Achain village, it is famous for its refugee villages (Casbah de Toubkal). It was built by an English man and a local villager. 
    • Take a path that goes to Armed village. It is the biggest village in Imlil valley. 
    • Cross a wide river to the left as well as start climbing the mountain to Chamharouch. 2310m). Stop at a place for lunch and break. Turn to the right and take the path to Dodmert. Here the oxygen becomes less dense because you have reached 3000m. Reach the refuge de Toubkal, 3207m. Spend the first night here to take a rest and prepare for the second day.
  • Day 2 : Hike to Summit expand_more

    Wake up early at five o'clock, to have breakfast and be ready to move at 5h30m to climb the highest peak in North Africa. It will take more than three and a half hours to be at the top. 

    Make your way back which will take about 4 hours to reach the refuge to have lunch. Rest a bit and prepare to come back to Imlil taking the same route.

Know before you go
  • The hiker should be in a good shape. The path is not very difficult, but it’s a high altitude climb. 
  • The best season to climb Toubkal is from May to October (depending on weather). In winter, it must be climbed with crampons. 
  • The lack of oxygen affects different to each person.
