- What is a truffle? Where does it grow? And above all... how is it found? Enjoy with us this exciting experience to answer all your questions and learn some lovely anecdotes about our four-legged friends! Truffle hunting, a tough and difficult job, is transformed into a pleasant activity that allows us to stay in close contact with nature and dogs. This “hunting” definitely requires passion, a lot of perseverance, excellent technique and also...a little luck!
- The experience will take place in the woods and valleys of Siena, and you will understand how much work and dedication are hidden behind the precious truffle and its unique taste. Mario, a truffle hunter and passionate restaurateur, will show you some of the most important rules and secrets of truffle hunting: from the care and passion for dogs to the love and respect for nature.
- We will accompany our expert truffle hunter and his highly trained dogs in the guarded and secret places where truffles grow. Many factors influence the hunting: the dog’s breed, age and experience, his desire to learn, but also weather and environmental conditions.
- Dogs can find a truffle even when it's ten centimetres underground because of its strong smell; they can distinguish its smell from many others. The time of the truffle hunting is significant, and it is preferable to do it early in the morning.

What to bring
Recommended clothing: boots closed up to the ankle, long trousers, long-sleeved shirt and/or sweater. In the wood temperatures can be lower, even in summer

Not accessible in wheelchairs or pushchairs
Children can participate only with the presence of at least one adult, responsible for their safety.
We can provide a transfer to the place where the truffle hunting will take place at an additional cost.
Participants have to be in good physical shape.
This experience will only take place under favourable climatic conditions. In case of cancellation due to bad weather, you can choose to postpone the experience to another date or receive a full refund.
The recommended times are from 9 am to 11 am, especially during the summer, and from 5 pm to 7 pm. For safety reasons, the hottest hours of the day are strongly not recommended
Periods and products:
- White truffle Tuber magnatum: from September 10 until December 31
- Marzuolo Tuber borchii e Tuber albidum: from January 10 until April 30
- Scorzone Tuber aestivum: from June 1 until November 30
- In May, both truffle hunting and its collection are closed
