Discover Trieste's Historic Heart
- We'll begin our tour at Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia, one of the largest seafront squares in Europe. Here, surrounded by elegant neoclassical buildings, we'll uncover the historical significance of Trieste as a port of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. You'll admire the Palazzo del Governo and the Town Hall while listening to stories that recount the city's vibrant past.
- We'll then proceed toward the Cathedral of San Giusto, situated on the hill overlooking the city. This majestic church, with its rich collection of mosaics, is a symbol of Trieste's spirituality and offers breathtaking panoramic views from the top of the hill.
- From there, we'll reach the Ancient Roman Theatre. This theatre is one of the remnants of old Tergeste, a city with a lively cultural life during the Roman era, and it offers a unique atmosphere.
- Finally, we'll head to the Borgo Teresiano, designed in the 18th century under the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria. This neighborhood features orderly streets and beautifully decorated palaces.
- We'll admire the Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo, an example of neobaroque architecture, standing near the Serbian Orthodox Church of Saint Spiridione, a church in Neo-Byzantine style.
- During the tour, we'll share fascinating curiosities: did you know that Trieste is known as "the city of the Bora wind"? Or that the coffee tradition is a fundamental part of Trieste's life, with historic cafés like Caffè Tommaseo?
