Description
The Val d’Orcia is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we read, “it is an exceptional example of the redesigning of the landscape in the Renaissance… a combination of art and landscape, the expression of wonderful natural features but also the result and testimony of the people who live there….” When you hear about the Tuscan countryside, you are likely to envision a picture of this area: unlimited views of smooth hills, cypress zig-zag roads, small hamlets and chapels surrounded by fields. Val d’Orcia is dotted with beautiful towns: among the many, we will visit Montalcino and Pienza. Montalcino is a real treat for connoisseurs and wine lovers. Montalcino rhymes with Brunello, one of the kings of Tuscan reds. You’ll get the chance to taste it widely in two small off-beaten-track wineries. From Montalcino, the tour will head to Pienza – a town that was built on the wishes of Pope Pius II in the 16th century, and that is considered the ideal city of the Renaissance – where we recommend you to have lunch at one of our favourite family-run places: you might like to linger in a pecorino cheese and olive oil tasting as well!
