Trek across the great lakes of Kashmir and get enchanted by the celestial land that is nothing short of a fairytale. This 8-day trek will allow you to take a shikara ride in the Dal Lake hike along the Sindh River in Nichnai, admire the snow-covered peaks at Vishansar Lake and witness the Kishansar Peak, see the beautiful azure of the Gangabal Twin Lakes, and amble along the beautiful forest in Ganderbal.

  • Day 1: Srinagar to Sonamarg expand_more
    • Spend some time in Srinagar, which is known for its beautiful gardens, lakes, and houseboats.

    • Experience an iconic shikara ride at Dal Lake or stroll through the Mughal Gardens, unravelling its many beauties along the way.

    • Depart from the city by evening for the drive towards Sonamarg.

    • Arrive at campsite/ guest house in Sonamarg and retreat for an overnight stay.

  • Day 2: Sonamarg to Nichnai via Shekdur (9 -10 km) expand_more
    • After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the guesthouse, start out on a 3-4 km trek from Sonamarg.

    • Reach a roadside eatery to pack all the required commodities for the day. From this point, the trek will be a gradual one.

    • Continue trekking alongside the Sindh river through maple and pine forests, and be rewarded with the stunning views of Sonamarg valley with its picturesque streams.

    • Arrive at Nichnai and set camp for overnight stay.

  • Day 3: Nichnai to Vishansar Lake (13 km) expand_more
    • Start for trek towards Nichnai Pass at around 8:00 AM. On the way, enjoy stunning views of the lush valleys and the untouched beauty of the region.
    • Cross the river and continue hiking through its banks.

    • Arrive at Nichnai Pass or the Vishansar Berry, located 13,500m above sea level.

    • Witness and enjoy the meticulous beauty of the pass and the snow-covered peaks all around it before retreating to camp for an overnight stay.

  • Day 4: Acclimatisation day in Vishansar expand_more
    • This day will be reserved for rest and acclimatisation to the weather.

  • Day 5: Trek from Vishansar to Gadsar via Kishasar and Gadsar Pass (11km) expand_more
    • Wake up to a chilly morning and witness the Kishansar Peak casting its reflection on the azure lake waters.

    • Start the trek for the day towards the lakeside and reach Kishansar Peak, situated around 500 ft above the campsite.

    • From here, ascend to the other side of the water reservoir. The trek till this point comprises of both easy and tough terrains.

    • Arrive and Gadsar and set camp for overnight stay.

  • Day 6: Gadsar to Satsar (12 km) expand_more
    • Begin the day with a walk from the army camp towards the stream. Brace for varied terrains ranging from super steep, flat and even land.
    • Take a short break at Maengandob that is fringed by mountains.
    • Arrive at Satsar and set camp for an overnight stay.
  • Day 7: Satsar to Gangabal Twin lakes (9 km) expand_more
    • Set out early in the morning and trek towards Gangabal. A true test of calibre, this is the day when trekkers will have to push their physical and mental limits and trudge through rocks and boulder ridden terrain. 

    • Pass the last of the Satsar lakes, and start hiking downwards for half an hour to arrive at the forest line.
    • Arrive at Gangabal twin lakes and set camp for an overnight stay.
  • Day 8: Trek from Gangabal to Naranag (12 km) expand_more
    • After breakfast, start trekking from the Gangabal camp.

    • Amble along the grassy land dotted with yellow flowers and pine forest before starting your descent towards Naranag, the last leg of the trek.

    • Reach Naranag Village in Ganderbal District and spend some time here. Trekkers can make an optional visit to the Naranag Temple

    • Drive back to Srinagar.
