First, you will discover the history and most important places of this fascinating city and first capital of the colony of Brazil. We will see some of the touristic highlights of the city, such as: the Lighthouse of Barra, the Corridor of Victoria bordered by ancient trees, the Campo Grande square and a busy commercial area. We then arrive in the Historical Center, called so after the UNESCO made it a World Heritage Site and a must for the all visitors: a complete old neighborhood, called Pelourinho, full of churches and magnificent colorful mansions in typical Portuguese colonial styles. We visit this place walking through the lively squares and cobblestone streets experiencing the local atmosphere and people. A strong suggestion is to visit the church of São Francisco, a real jewel with its fantastic Baroque interior covered by gold leaves.

You will have the opportunity to lunch in one of the cozy local restaurants in the Pelourinho and taste one the delicious regional dishes, such as the “moqueca” (fish stew prepared in the African way)!

After lunch you will discover the more quiet and human face of this fascinating city in the Lower City of Salvador. Our principal destination is the peninsula of Itapagipe, completely surrounded by the calm waters of the bay and an oasis of peace at only 8 km from the busy harbor area. Before arriving there, we visit the biggest and swarming open market of the city, São Joaquim., an adventure on itself! From here, we go to the neighborhoods of Ribeira, with fantastic views on the Bay of All Saints, and the famous church of Bonfim, an important place for pilgrimage and syncretism.
