Day 01

Dinh Mountain Herping Adventure

Herping is the act of searching for amphibians or reptiles. This herping tour is an initiative that strives to preserve biodiversity through tourism, photography, and education, replacing fear with fascination for amphibians and reptiles.

The trip starts in the early afternoon at 1 PM. First of all, it depends on the specific species you would like to see, and we will adapt the trip to increase our chances. The terrain we search is not too physically demanding.
We visit different habitats and our favourite hotspots, where we will search for herps on foot. These are usually not long hikes. It tends to be more successful to intensively search several spots rather than hike long distances on a single long trail.
There is only a local restaurant on the mountain, so it is better to bring some snacks with you. We will prepare dinner for you.
After spending our time herping, we will go back to Ho Chi Minh City at midnight.

Dinh Mountain lies about a 1.5-hour drive east-west of Ho Chi Minh. The area can be tricky to reach by public transport, so the best plan is for us to pick you up in Ho Chi Minh and drive there.
Our tours start from Ho Chi Minh City.
The place is open year-round. Our herping tours can depart every day of the year, as long as our guide is available. Booking in advance is recommended.
It is always a tough question to answer what the best time of year is for herping in Dinh Mountain. Let's start by saying we have had successful trips in all months of the year.
Typically, the wet season is probably the most consistent when it comes to producing good results. The wet season is roughly May to October, and often much of November still benefits from the wet period before. December-January can be successful, but there is also the chance of periods with cold nights that significantly slow down the movement of species.
