Description
First objective we'll visit is The Candle of Gratitude, growing from the depths of our past, is a tribute to all the anonymous heroes who have preserved the culture, language and history of Moldova in the polychrome palette of human civilization. The Candle of Gratitude - this monument erected on the rock and which crowns this rock, above the old Dniester, on the edge of Soroca promontory. The monument is about 30 m high and 564 steps from the base of the gorge to the top.
Soroca Fortress is located in the center of Soroca, 170 km from the capital Chisinau. It is a 15th century Moldavian fortress, founded by Stephen the Great in front of the ford over the Dniester, on the site of an old Genoese fortress, Alcione. The fortress was later rebuilt by Petru Rareş, who rebuilt the stone walls. The Soroca fortress was built against the Tartar armies, which, through the forts of the Dniester, made their way to Moldova.Soroca was not a large fortress, with two rows of walls, like Suceava, Cetatea Albă or Hotin, but a small fortress, a castle for the shelter of a guard against the Tartars.
Continue the excursion in Soroca with visiting the Gypsy district with their life. The respective houses represent real imposing fortresses, with two or three floors, sometimes even more, made of granite, marble, expensive imported materials, insulated windows, guarded by huge statues, representing imitations of wild animals. At the entrance we find cylindrical columns, with bas-reliefs, supporting the balconies on the upper floors.
Optional we can propose you to visit RockScor Brewery in Ghindesti village. Is almost on the way to Soroca.
