This walk will take you past the city’s main landmarks as well as off the beaten [sensitive content]approximately 3 hours you will see and learn about Valletta’s most notorious buildings as well as about its hidden charms.
The tour concludes with a guided visit of the St.John’s Co-Cathedral*, this marvellous 16th century cathedral was originally the conventual church of the knights of Malta, built in just five years and embellished over the span of more than two hundred years, it was gradually transformed into a spectacular work of art.No expense was spared in creating this wonder, as the knights commissioned only the top artists and sculptors of the day.The rather austere façade gives no clue of all the beauty that lies inside this cathedral.
St.John’s Co-Cathedral is a church like no other, a church of awesome beauty coupled with an interesting and unique history, with its many treasures and adorned interior it is unquestionably one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the World.The cathedral also houses ''The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist’'' by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio - one of the greatest painters who ever lived, considered one of Caravaggio’s greatest masterpieces, it is the only work signed by the painter.
During this tour we will walk by various landmarks, some of the highlights include:
Valletta City Gate, Parliament Of Malta, Castille Square, Upper Barrakka Gardens, Merchants Street, St.John’s Co-Cathedral (including the inside of the Cathedral), Castellania, Old University, Palace Square, Republic Square, Valletta’s side streets and many more.
*The entrance fee to the St.John’s Co-Cathedral is not included in the price, the tickets can be purchased on spot on the day of the tour. This price of the ticket is: €15 (adults), €12 (seniors 60+ years), €12 (student), children under 12 years are free of charge when accompanied by an adult (price of tickets can change without prior notice).
