Being in a natural park, you have a few beautiful spots, where you can park and take amazing pictures of the mountain and the Atlantic Ocean.Along the way, you will stop to see from the outside the Arrábida Convent, before reaching the historical centre of Setúbal.
Arriving at Setúbal, you will explore the Livramento Market, that in June/2015, was considered by USA Today Travel (Food & Wine), as one of the 10 best fish markets of the world.Being the oldest traditional market in Portugal (over 145 years), the market’s distinctive tiled walls, called “Azulejos”, depict scenes of everyday local activities such as fishing and farming.See an assortment of local seafood laid out on counters and get to know how the different fish actually look like, and how to cook them…
Next on the menu is LUNCH ;-) For this, you will have lunch at a typical family run fisherman´s restaurant, where you will eat a delicious and traditional Atlantic meal (no, not Mediterranean…).
There is no menu, as all depends on the morning´s catch. You could have Dourada (Sea Bream), Robalo (Sea Bass), Espadarte (Swordfish/Marlin), Sardinhas (Sardines), Carapaus (Horse Mackerel), Chocos (Cuttlefish) and many others. With that, you have simple but very good homemade side dishes that the fisherman traditionally eat.Talk with your guide and choose if you want to have a more “adventurous” or “keeping things simple” meal.
Time permitting, explore one of the first “star fortifications” build in Portugal in 1580(-1600), and take in the amazing views over the surrounding locations. The São Filipe Fortress, resulted of the orders of the king, for the fortification of the coastline that protected Setúbal and the entrance of the Sado river.
