4:00 PM:

Meet your expert food guide at the designated meeting point in Thamel. The tour begins with a brief introduction to Newari culture and its celebrated cuisine.
Stop 1: The Savory Pancake:

Your culinary journey starts at a local eatery with Wo (also known as Bara), a delicious and savory lentil pancake, a staple in Newari households.
Stop 2: The Nepali Pizza:

Wander through the historic marketplace of Ason Tole to a hidden spot famous for its Chatamari. This thin rice-flour crepe is topped with minced meat and egg.
Stop 3: Spiced & Grilled:

Dive deeper into the alleyways to taste two popular snacks: Choila, a spicy grilled buffalo meat salad, and Sekuwa, flavorful grilled meat skewers.
Stop 4: A Toast to Tradition:

Visit a local bhatti (tavern) to sample homemade Newari beverages. Try a sip of the potent Aila (rice spirit) or the milder, milky Thwon (rice beer), accompanied by some traditional snacks.
Stop 5: The Grand Feast:

Your main culinary event is tasting the famous Samay Baji platter. Your guide explains the cultural significance of each element on the plate, which includes beaten rice (chiura), smoked meat, boiled egg, pickles, and various beans.

Be prepared to walk approximately 3-4 kilometers through bustling and sometimes uneven streets. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are essential.

Newari cuisine features a unique blend of spices and prominently includes buffalo meat ("buff"). While vegetarian options can be arranged with advance notice, the tour is most authentic for omnivores.

This tour focuses on authentic, local experiences. You will be visiting small, clean, and safe family-run establishments and street stalls, not fine-dining restaurants.
