The itinerary

Day 01

Jiefang North Road and Tianjin's Historic Walled City

In the morning, around 9:00 AM, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Tianjin Century Clock, a landmark sculpture built to welcome the arrival of the 21st century.

Cross Jiefang Bridge, originally the International Bridge, to reach Jiefang North Road, the original financial district of the British and French Concessions. Known as the "Wall Street of Northern China," this area brings together architectural styles including Italian Renaissance, exposed-timber frame, Gothic, Eclectic, Modernist, and Sino-Western hybrid designs. The morning tour includes visits to the Tianjin Postal Museum, originally the post office of the Qing Empire; the Tianjin Digital Art Museum, formerly the Municipal Administration Building of the French Concession; the former Zizhulin Church, also known as the Church of St. Louis; the Tianjin Bank Museum, formerly the Yokohama Specie Bank; the Former Tientsin Astor House Hotel Museum, also known as the Lishunde Museum; the Tianjin Financial Exhibition Center, originally the building of the Kailuan Mining Administration; and the former Anglican Church, now the Anglican Art Center. A brief history of banking and finance in Tianjin will also be introduced.

Lunch can be enjoyed at Longyin Pavilion for high-end Tianjin cuisine such as clear-stewed oxtail and Zengbeng carp, or at Kiessling Western Restaurant for dishes such as pot-stewed beef, Russian-style beef stroganoff, and cream-baked mixed meats. You may also savor Halal delicacies such as steamed buns, dumplings, shaomai, and beef and lamb dishes in the Tianjinwei historic district.

In the afternoon, around 1:00 PM, stroll through Tianjin's old walled city, which has a history of 620 years. Explore the historical sites of the old city, whose ancient walls were destroyed by the Eight-Nation Alliance in 1900. Visits include two mosques, an old government-run school, the Drum Tower, which once served to mark the time, a silk and satin shop, the Guangdong Guild Hall, a meeting place for natives of Guangdong featuring an ancient stage, the Mazu Temple, dedicated to the ancient Chinese goddess of the sea, the Gege Mansion, where "Gege" refers to a daughter of the Manchu imperial family, equivalent to a princess, the Yuhuang Pavilion, a Taoist structure, the Tianjin Folk Customs Museum, the Confucian Temple, and the Wanghailou Church, the site of the Tianjin Massacre.

Dinner can be taken at Gongdelin Vegetarian Restaurant, known for Stir-fried Green Beans and Arhat's Vegetarian Feast, or at Tianjinwei Traditional Restaurant on Guwenhua Street for classic "Three-Stir-Fry" and Tofu with Eight Treasures.

Day 02

Tianjin Breakfast, Five Great Avenues, and Haihe Night Cruise

In the morning, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, enjoy a Tianjin-style breakfast in the Xibeijiao area of Hongqiao District, featuring items such as deep-fried dough sticks (youtiao), fried cakes, jianbing guozi, soy milk, and more.

Stroll through the Five Great Avenues district, an upscale residential area originally built for high-ranking officials, wealthy merchants, and renowned figures from China and abroad. The morning tour will cover the brief history of the Warlord Era in old China and introduce several key regional warlords. Visit the Five Great Avenues History Museum, the former residence of King Qing of the Manchu, Xiannong Art Area, and Minyuan Stadium Square, including the Tianjin Sports Museum, Baishi Museum, and Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Hall.

Lunch is at Guiyuan Restaurant, known for Chestnut & Yam and Eight-Treasure Tofu.

In the afternoon, continue visiting other attractions in the Five Great Avenues area, such as the Geda Building, Tianjin Middle School, founded by the French Jesuits, and the Musee Hoangho Paiho.

Visit the exquisite Xikai Catholic Church, then stroll through the Yigong Garden historic district, formerly the Italian Concession, and enjoy local snacks. Continue to the Tianjin Planning Exhibition Hall, the Marco Polo Square architectural complex, the Forum Hai Alai, the Church of the Sacred Heart, and the Centennial Tianjin Industrial Exhibition Hall. The history of Tianjin's theater scene and the biography of Liang Qichao, one of the most important thinkers of the modern era, will also be introduced during this tour.

Dinner is at a cultural and creative industry park transformed from an old Italian barracks, where you can enjoy art galleries and coffee time.

Take a sightseeing cruise to enjoy the night views of the Haihe River, Tianjin's "Mother River," as well as the Tianjin Bund and the modern CBD skyline.

Day 03

Jixian County Temples and Huangyaguan Great Wall

Enjoy a full-day trip to Jixian County from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

After about an hour's drive from downtown Tianjin, visit unique thousand-year-old temples, including Dule Temple, where various interesting anecdotes will be shared, the Confucian Temple, and the Luban Temple, dedicated to Luban, the patron saint of ancient Chinese craftsmen.

Climb and explore the Huangyaguan Great Wall, originally built in 556 AD. Learn about the history of the Great Wall at the Great Wall Museum and the Stele Forest.

Stroll through Xijingyu Cultural and Art Village and explore the works of young Chinese artists.

Return to downtown Tianjin.

Day 04

Shi Family Compound, Golden Street, and Tianjin Skyline

In the morning, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, travel to the Shi Family Compound, once the premier mansion of old Tianjin, covering an area of 7,000 square meters. This morning tour introduces the compound's brick and wood carvings, its architectural layout, and the principles of Feng shui.

Visit a woodblock workshop for New Year painting in the ancient town of Yangliuqing, which boasts a history spanning a thousand years.

For shopping, head to Quanyechang and Golden Street, Tianjin's most famous and historic commercial streets, central to the city's commercial history. Continue the morning tour with a visit to the exquisite Porcelain House, composed of 700 million porcelain shards and more than 4,000 porcelain pieces.

Lunch is at Tianjin's most famous Goubuli Steamed Bun Restaurant.

In the afternoon, from 1:00 PM to 8:30 PM, stroll along Anshan Road, in the former Japanese Concession, and listen to stories from the past of Puyi, China's last emperor, at Jingyuan, along with an overview of his life.

Learn about Tianjin's history and appreciate its cultural relics and artworks at the Tianjin Museum and Tianjin Art Museum, designed by world-renowned architects.

For a panoramic view of Tianjin, head to the Tianjin Radio and Television Tower or the observation deck at the Tianjin World Financial Center, Jin Tower, Tianjin's tallest construction.

Dinner and a night tour take place at the Miansan Fashion & Creative District.

Day 05

Maritime Culture and Top Chinese Universities

In the morning, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, visit and learn about two renowned Chinese educational institutions: Tianjin University and Nankai University. These top-tier universities cultivate talent across various fields for both China and the wider world, and stand as a source of pride in Chinese education.

Lunch is at Xiqing Yao Village Snack Street.

In the afternoon, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, explore maritime culture at the Binhai Cultural Center and the National Maritime Museum of China in the Binhai New Area. Continue the afternoon with a stroll along the Bohai Sea coast.

Dinner is at Beitang for seafood.
