The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Semera and Sunset at Lake Assale

Arrive in Semera by morning flight and meet the experienced drivers and guide team.
Travel across the desert in a 4WD convoy to reach Hamedela in the Danakil Depression.
Continue to the iconic salt flat of Lake Assale in the afternoon.
Witness a dramatic sunset over the reflective salt crusts in one of the lowest and hottest places on Earth.
Set up camp under the stars with clean bedding and a mattress prepared by the support team.
Enjoy the comfort of a well-equipped camp with a police escort and plenty of drinking water for safety.

Day 02

Dallol Geothermal Fields and Erta Ale Volcano

Begin the day early with a sunrise visit to the surreal Dallol geothermal site.
Explore the bubbling sulfur springs, colorful mineral formations, and nearby salt and mud caves.
Enjoy a picnic breakfast near the Dallol crater.
Visit the salt plains and swim in the refreshing cold pool of Lake Karum.
Meet local salt miners and observe traditional salt extraction techniques.
Have lunch in Hamedela before driving toward the Erta Ale volcano.
Hike at sunset to the rim of the caldera and witness the glowing active lava lake in the dark.
Return to base camp and spend the night under the stars with all camping gear provided.

Day 03

Salt Lake Afdera and Return to Semera

Start the day with an early breakfast.
Drive to Afdera, one of the lowest and hottest points in the Danakil Depression.
Visit the salt farms and observe traditional salt harvesting methods.
Enjoy views of the Salt Lake and the striking desert landscapes.
Have lunch in Afdera before returning to Semera by 4WD.
Choose to either overnight in Semera or take an afternoon flight back to Addis Ababa, concluding the adventure through this geologically active and culturally unique region.
