1. 8-Hour Debre Libanos Monastery and Jema River Gorge Itinerary

   • Depart from Addis Ababa with pick-up from your hotel, guest house, or Bole International Airport. Drive north along the road that connects the capital to Ethiopia’s major historical route, enjoying the changing landscapes en route.

   • Arrive at Debre Libanos Monastery, founded in the 14th century by Saint Tekle Hayimanot, one of Ethiopia’s most revered saints. Explore the main church and appreciate its architecture and spiritual significance.

   • Visit the Monastery Museum, which houses ancient religious manuscripts, ceremonial robes, processional crosses, and other ecclesiastical treasures of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

   • Continue to the Jema River Gorge viewpoint for panoramic views of the dramatic landscape and valleys carved by the river.

   • Observe the endemic Gelada Baboons in their natural habitat, watching their unique social interactions and grazing behavior on the cliff edges.

   • Walk to the historic 16th-century Portuguese Bridge, believed to have been constructed to connect Addis Ababa with other northern regions. Learn about its historical importance and construction.

   • Enjoy lunch at a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the gorge and surrounding mountains, sampling traditional Ethiopian dishes or other available options.

   • Return to Addis Ababa via the same scenic route, passing through highland landscapes and rural villages.

   • Conclude the trip with a coffee break at the renowned Tomoca Coffee House, famous for its rich aroma and heritage.
