Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe
- Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, located on a peninsula extending into Lake Victoria.
- Meet your dedicated safari guide for a welcome briefing.
- Transfer to your nearby hotel for overnight rest.
- Relax and recover from your international journey.
Accommodation: Hotel near Entebbe International Airport

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
- Wake up early and enjoy breakfast at the hotel.
- Embark on a scenic full-day drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
- At Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrip, meet a representative from JM Jungle Safaris who will transfer you to Mahogany Springs Safari Lodge.
- Complete check-in and spend the afternoon at leisure.
- Optionally, join a cultural nature walk to explore the traditions of the local Bakiga and Batwa communities.
- Visit a traditional healer, learn about medicinal uses of the forest, or observe lessons at a local school.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi National Park
- Enjoy an early breakfast at 6:30 AM.
- Transfer to the park headquarters for registration and briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.
- Begin your trek into the misty forest to search for a habituated gorilla family.
- Trekking duration ranges between 30 minutes and 5 hours depending on gorilla movements.
- Spend one magical hour in the presence of the mountain gorillas once found.
- Observe the family dynamics and impressive Silverback behavior.
- Return to the lodge and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4: Return to Entebbe via Queen Elizabeth National Park
- Enjoy an early breakfast and check out.

- Proceed back to Entebbe, arriving in the late afternoon.
- Transfer to the airport or to your hotel depending on onward travel plans.

Know Before You Go

Murchison Falls National Park covers approximately 3,893 square kilometers and is Uganda’s largest national park.

The broader Murchison Falls Conservation Area, including Karuma and Bugungu Wildlife Reserves, spans around 5,072 square kilometers.

The best time for wildlife viewing is during the dry seasons from December to February and June to September.

Travel from Kampala to Paraa takes approximately 4 to 6 hours by road, covering around 305 kilometers via Masindi.

Southern gates like Kichumbanyobo and Masindi South are common access points, while northern gates like Tangi and Chobe also offer good access.

Park entry fees are USD 45 for foreign non-residents, USD 35 for foreign residents, and UGX 25,000 for East African citizens per 24 hours.

The boat cruise to the base of the falls costs USD 30 for foreign non-residents.

Hiking to the top of the falls costs USD 15 for foreign non-residents, while the viewpoint access alone costs USD 10.

A sport fishing permit costs USD 50 per day or USD 150 for four days, excluding park entry fees.

Classic game drives are best done early in the morning or late afternoon, especially in the northern section of the park for better wildlife sightings.

The boat cruise to the base of the falls runs daily, often departing at 9:00 and 14:00, offering excellent riverbank wildlife viewing.

The delta cruise downstream from Paraa usually starts around 7:00 and is ideal for spotting shoebills and other wetland birds.

The hike to the top of the falls and the viewpoints takes approximately two hours and offers dramatic views of the Nile.

Sport fishing for Nile perch and catfish is popular and requires advance permits.

Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into Uganda; carry your vaccination card.

Malaria is present nationwide; consult a doctor for preventive medication and insect bite protection.

Avoid wearing blue or black clothing to reduce attraction to tsetse flies; wear lightweight, neutral long-sleeved clothing and trousers.

Do not swim in the Nile due to strong currents, crocodiles, and hippos; use boats operated by licensed providers.

Carry essential documents including your passport, yellow fever certificate, and some Ugandan Shillings for tips and local purchases.

Wear neutral-colored long-sleeved shirts and trousers, a wide-brimmed hat, a light rain jacket, and sturdy shoes if hiking.

Use high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent, and bring after-bite cream and sunglasses.

Bring binoculars, a dust-protected camera, and a dry bag for boat trips.

Book boat cruises, hikes, and fishing permits in advance through your lodge or the Uganda Wildlife Authority, especially during peak seasons.

Use a 4×4 vehicle within the park as distances are long and roads are unpaved; begin game drives early to avoid the heat.

The shoebill stork is best spotted on the delta cruise; binoculars are highly recommended.
