Day by day
Upon arrival in Addis, transfer to Mekelle and begin the tour.
Continue by 4WD to Hamed Ela, a settlement of salt diggers, and watch for the camping sites of the camel caravans along the way.
Overnight stay in the traditional guesthouses in Hamed Ela.
Drive to Dallol and visit colourful hot springs, salt pyramids, salt mushrooms, and traditional salt mining sites.
Enjoy the fabled sights of camel caravans and the unusual landscape with your Ethiopian tour guide.
Overnight stay in Hamed Ela village.
Drive to Erta Ale, the most active volcano.
Hike to the smoke-blowing mountain for about 5 hours at night.
Overnight stay atop the mountain.
Early in the morning, return to the cars before sunrise.
