Day 1: Adventure to the Oases and Deserts of Southern Tunisia
The journey begins early in the morning with a ferry departure from Djerba, followed by a scenic drive to El Hamma. From there, head towards the stunning Chott Djerid, the largest salt flat in North Africa, where the vast, arid landscape will immerse you in the grandeur of the desert.
Continue your exploration towards the Mountain Oasis, starting with a stop at Chebika, a Berber village famous for its fresh spring water and breathtaking natural surroundings. Next, head to Mides, where the majestic canyons offer spectacular views. Enjoy a delicious lunch at a traditional guesthouse before continuing the adventure.
The journey takes you across the salty expanse of Chott El Gharsa towards Mos Espa, the largest Star Wars film set in Tunisia. Prepare for a thrilling experience as you drive across the sand dunes and rally tracks, which provide stunning panoramic views. End the day with a breathtaking sunset over the dunes, followed by a cup of tea with a view of the Nefta Basket, a perfect spot to unwind before resting for the night.
Day 2: Immersion in the Culture and History of the South
After a traditional breakfast at the hotel, take a guided stroll through the historic medina of Tozeur, a maze of picturesque streets. Immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of the souks, discover local crafts, and savor the aromas of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Next, head to Douz, the Gateway to the Desert, where you'll have free time to explore the local market. You’ll also have the chance to enjoy a camel ride or an exciting quad bike ride through the dunes, offering incredible views of the Sahara. After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, continue your journey south to Tamazret, a traditional Berber village, where you'll stop for a brief visit to learn about the local culture.
The adventure continues to Matmata, a unique village known for its troglodyte houses (underground homes) carved into the rock to escape the desert heat. This location, which served as a backdrop for Star Wars, transports you into a surreal, otherworldly setting. Finally, finish your journey with a visit to Toujane, a picturesque village with earth-colored houses nestled between two mountains. It’s the perfect place to take photos and enjoy the tranquility of southern Tunisia before heading back.
