The ksar consists of tower-shaped buildings called ghorfas, which are chambers or cells built within the walls of the main building. The Ksar Hadada was used as the setting for some scenes of Star Wars Episode. The Phantom Threat, especially those set on Tatooine, the desert planet where Anakin Skywalker lives as a young boy. Specifically, the ksar was used to film the exterior of Anakin's mother Shmi Skywalker's house when Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrive in the village looking for parts to repair their ship.

The scene in which Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrive in Tatooine looking for parts for their spaceship was shot in front of the entrance of one of the ksar's buildings. Indeed, the earth and stone towers of the Ksar Ouled Soltane bear a striking resemblance to the habitat of Shmi Skywalker, as shown in the film.
