    • Medellín: 'Eternal spring' (18-28°C / 64-82°F).

    • Santa Marta/Tayrona/Cartagena: Hot & humid (25-35°C / 77-95°F).

    • Pack layers!

  2. Altitude awareness:

    • Bogotá is 2,640 m (8,660 ft) above sea level. Some experience altitude sickness (headache, fatigue). Drink water and avoid heavy meals or alcohol on arrival.

  3. Safety:

    • Colombia is safer than its reputation, but be cautious:

      • Avoid flashing valuables, especially phones and cameras in crowded areas.

      • Use Uber/Cabify, which is safer than street taxis.

      • Ask hotels about safe neighborhoods at night.

  4. Cash & cards:

    • Carry small bills (COP) for markets and taxis.

    • Credit cards are widely accepted, but notify your bank of your travel plans.

    • ATMs are safe inside malls and banks; avoid street ATMs at night.
