Know before you go

  • Vaccinations and health: check with your doctor for recommended vaccinations such as yellow fever and malaria prevention. Carry any personal medications.
  • Visa and travel documents: ensure your passport is valid for at least six months. Check visa requirements. Most nationalities need a visa to enter Zambia. A KAZA UniVisa is ideal if visiting both Zimbabwe and Zambia.
  • Cash and payments: bring some cash in USD or Zambian Kwacha for tips, drinks, or local crafts. Some areas may not accept cards.
  • Connectivity: expect limited mobile signal and no Wi-Fi in remote camps. Embrace the chance to disconnect and reconnect with nature.
  • Packing tip: use a soft duffel bag instead of a hard suitcase. It is easier to load into safari vehicles.
  • Respect wildlife: always follow your guide's instructions. Stay quiet and do not approach or feed wild animals.
  • Weather awareness: Zambia has dry and rainy seasons. Pack accordingly, especially during shoulder months like April and November.
  • Cultural sensitivity: dress modestly when visiting local villages. Greet people respectfully and ask permission before taking photos.
  • Insurance: travel insurance is highly recommended to cover unexpected delays, health issues, or lost luggage.
  • Adventure spirit: be flexible and open-minded. Nature moves at its own pace, and every day on safari offers something new.
