Day 01
Dar es Salaam to Mikumi National Park Wildlife Safari
In the morning
- Early at 4:00 am, you will be picked up from your place of stay in Dar es Salaam and transferred to the train station to board the train departing at 6:00 am. Upon arrival in Morogoro at 7:45 am, you will be met by your safari guide and driven to Mikumi National Park. You will arrive at the park at 10:00 am and, after park formalities, embark on a game drive. The park gives a good impression of African wildlife. (192 km / 1 hr 40 min)
In the late morning
- Explore the park's varied terrain, including a floodplain, the 'little Serengeti,' and hippo pools where these enormous creatures wallow in thick mud. Mikumi National Park lies on the northern border of Africa's largest game reserve, the Selous, forming part of a sprawling wilderness area that stretches almost to the Indian Ocean.
- Visitors to Mikumi National Park occasionally spot rare tree-climbing lions. Other resident animals include eland, impala, kudu, black antelope, baboons, and wildebeests.
- In Mikumi, expect to see animals such as lions, buffalo, giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, impalas, warthogs, elephants, hippos, more than 300 bird species, and a variety of plant species. The park shares a common boundary with Selous Game Reserve to the south, creating a vast tract of protected wilderness.
In the afternoon
- Lunch will be at the Park Bandas at 2:00 pm, and then you will continue with a game-viewing drive around the hippo pools on the Kisungura Circuit. Many animals can be seen coming down to drink at the waterholes and hippo pools from time to time, but the stars of the show are always the hippos themselves.
Departure
- Later in the evening, around 4:00 pm, transfer back by road to Morogoro Town to board the 7:25 pm train, arriving in Dar es Salaam at 9:05 pm. On arrival, meet and transfer to your hotel.
