Kyoto Temples, Gion District and Traditional Art Show
Meeting point will be at your hotel in Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe, and other locations within the Kansai area only.
Sites covered in the morning:
- Visit Ginkaku-ji, officially named Jishō-ji, a Zen temple in Kyoto's Sakyo ward.
- Go to Honen-in, a Buddhist temple located in Sakyō-ku.
- Stroll through the Philosopher's Path, or Tetsugaku No Michi, a pedestrian path that follows a cherry-tree-lined canal.
- Explore Eikan-do, the head temple of the Seizan branch of Japan's Jōdo-shū Buddhist sect.
- Admire Nanzen-ji, a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto.
Sites covered in the afternoon:
- Visit Yasaka-Jinja, once called Gion Shrine, a Shinto shrine in Kyoto's Gion district.
- Stroll through Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka, stone-paved pedestrian roads and popular attractions in Higashiyama-ku.
- Explore Kiyomizu-dera, a Buddhist temple in eastern Kyoto.
- Go to the Gion district, Kyoto's geisha quarter, where hostesses in colourful kimonos are often sighted on the wooden Tatsumi Bridge or among the upscale Japanese restaurants and boutiques on Hanamikoji Street.
- Enjoy a Digest Traditional Performing Art Show at Gion Corner (18:00 or 19:00).
- The tour ends at a station near Gion or at Kyoto Station.
