The itinerary

1
Day 01

Pickup in Lisbon and Scenic Drive to Arrábida

  • Your day starts with pickup from your hotel, Airbnb, or cruise port in Lisbon for your tour.
  • As you reach the Arrábida National Park, admire the breathtaking views of the Sado estuary, listed as one of the most beautiful bays in the world.
2
Day 02

Photo Stops and Arrábida Convent

  • Within the natural park, there are several beautiful spots where you can stop, park, and take amazing pictures of the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Along the way, you will stop to see the Arrábida Convent from the outside before continuing to the historic centre of Setúbal.
3
Day 03

Explore Setúbal's Livramento Fish Market

  • Upon arriving in Setúbal, you will explore Livramento Market, which in June 2015 was considered by USA Today Travel (Food & Wine) to be one of the 10 best fish markets in the world.
  • As the oldest traditional market in Portugal, with more than 145 years of history, its distinctive tiled walls, known as "Azulejos," depict scenes of everyday local life such as fishing and farming.
  • See an assortment of local seafood displayed on the counters and learn what the different fish look like and how they are cooked.
4
Day 04

Traditional Fisherman's Lunch in Setúbal

  • Next on the menu is lunch. You will eat at a typical family-run fisherman's restaurant, where you will enjoy a delicious and traditional Atlantic meal - not Mediterranean.
  • There is no fixed menu, as everything depends on the morning's catch. You may have Dourada (Sea Bream), Robalo (Sea Bass), Espadarte (Swordfish/Marlin), Sardinhas (Sardines), Carapaus (Horse Mackerel), Chocos (Cuttlefish), and many others.
  • Alongside the fish, you will enjoy simple but very good homemade side dishes traditionally eaten by fishermen. Talk with your guide and choose whether you would like a more "adventurous" meal or prefer to keep things simple.
5
Day 05

São Filipe Fortress and Return to Lisbon

  • Time permitting, explore one of the first "star fortifications" built in Portugal between 1580 and 1600, and take in the amazing views over the surrounding area.
  • The São Filipe Fortress was built by order of the king to fortify the coastline protecting Setúbal and the entrance to the Sado River.
