Know before you go

  • Best Time to Trek: Spring (March-May) offers stable weather and blooming rhododendrons, while autumn (September-November) brings clear skies and great views. Winter (December-February) is cold with fewer trekkers, and monsoon (June-August) brings rain, leeches, and poor visibility.
  • Trekking Permits: You need a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) Card and an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). Both can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.
  • Fitness & Training: A moderate fitness level is required. Train with cardio, strength exercises, and long hikes to prepare for daily walks of 5-7 hours with elevation gain.
  • Altitude Sickness & Acclimatization: ABC is at 4,130 m (13,550 ft), so there is a risk of AMS. Stay hydrated, ascend gradually, and take rest days. Carry Diamox (consult your doctor first).
  • Packing Essentials: Bring layered clothing (base, mid, and outer layers), a waterproof jacket, warm gloves, and a hat. Trekking boots that are already broken in and extra socks are essential. Pack a sleeping bag (-10°C recommended), trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottles, and purification tablets. A first aid kit with bandages, painkillers, altitude medication, and rehydration salts is also important.
  • Accommodation & Food: Teahouses along the route offer basic but comfortable accommodation. Local food includes dal bhat, noodles, momo, eggs, and porridge. Hot showers and charging facilities are available at an extra cost.
  • Costs & Budget: Budget $25-40 per day for food and lodging. Guides cost $25-30 per day, and porters cost $15-20 per day. Transportation from Pokhara to Nayapul costs around $10-15.
  • Guides & Porters: While you can trek independently, hiring a guide and porter makes the trek easier and safer. Guides help with navigation, permits, and cultural insights.
  • Connectivity & Money: Wi-Fi is available in some teahouses for a fee. Mobile networks (Ncell and Nepal Telecom) work in some areas. ATMs are available in Pokhara, but carry enough cash since there are no ATMs on the trek.
  • Environmental Responsibility: Use a reusable water bottle and purification tablets. Avoid plastic waste, respect local culture, and follow
