Day 1: Moshi/Arusha to Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
- Elevation: 1200m to 1700m to 2850m
- Distance: 11km
- Hiking Time: 6 hours

- Start at Umbwe Gate, trek through dense rainforest.
- Steep ridges and valleys.
- Peaceful yet demanding.
Overnight at Umbwe Camp.
Day 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
- Elevation: 2850m to 3950m
- Distance: 6km
- Hiking Time: 4 hours

Temperatures vary significantly: hot at lower altitudes and freezing at higher elevations.
