Day 01

Arrival in Nairobi and Lake Nakuru Game Drive

Know before you go

  • Ensure you are up to date on routine vaccinations, and consider getting recommended vaccines such as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Yellow Fever.
  • Anti-malarial medication may be recommended. Consult your doctor before departure.
  • Travel insurance is highly recommended to cover medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage.
  • Both Kenyan Shillings (KES) and Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) are used in the respective countries. US dollars are widely accepted, but bring small denominations for tips.
  • Credit cards are accepted in some places, but it is best to carry cash, especially in more remote areas.
  • Gratuities are common for drivers, guides, and lodge staff. Typically, this is $5-$10 per day per guide.
  • Expect warm days and cooler mornings and evenings. Pack light, breathable clothing, but also bring a jacket or sweater for colder times.
  • Wear neutral colors like khaki, brown, and green to blend in with the environment and avoid attracting insects.
  • Soft-sided bags are easier to store in safari vehicles than hard-shell suitcases.
  • Do not forget sunscreen, insect repellent, and a good pair of binoculars for wildlife spotting.
  • Stay inside the vehicle unless guided otherwise. Always follow your guide's instructions for safety.
  • Respect animals and maintain a safe distance. Never attempt to touch or feed them.
  • Wi-Fi and cell service may be limited in remote areas, so inform family or friends in advance.
  • Local SIM cards are available for purchase at airports if you need mobile data for communication.
  • Kenya and Tanzania are in the East Africa Time Zone (EAT), which is UTC +3.
