Day 01

Arrival in Mekele and Hike to Abune Yemata Guh

Fly from Addis Ababa to Mekele in the morning, the capital of the Tigray region.
Drive to Hawzen, the gateway to the Gheralta Mountains.
En route, visit Abreha Atsbeha rock-hewn church, one of the oldest churches in the region.
In the afternoon, embark on a challenging hike to the 5th-century Abune Yemata Guh church, perched on a cliffside at 2,580 meters (8,460 feet). The hike requires good physical fitness.

Day 02

Hike to Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor

In the morning, hike to the rock-hewn churches of Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor, located in the Gheralta Mountains. The hike takes about 2 hours and involves moderate climbing, requiring a reasonable level of fitness.
In the afternoon, explore the small town of Hawzen, where you will learn about the local Tigray people's way of life.

Debre Tsion Mariam and Return to Mekele
