Embark on a scenic journey through Lisbon's historic heart, starting at the stunning Sun Gate viewpoint. The walk ends in the elegant Chiado district, a perfect place for a meal or a relaxing drink.

From there, we'll proceed towards the downtown area to visit the main sights, such as Augusta Street and Rossio Square.

Day 01

Lisbon Historic Centre Walk from Alfama to Chiado

• We'll meet at the Sun Gate (Portas do Sol) viewpoint.
• After visiting the area and understanding the geography of the city, we'll walk downhill through the Alfama district until we reach the waterfront.
• From there, we'll proceed towards the downtown area to visit the main sights, such as Augusta Street and Rossio Square.
• We will then continue uphill towards the elegant neighbourhood of Chiado.
• The tour will end here, a great place to have lunch, dinner, or just a drink.

Know before you go

• Lisbon is a very hilly city, and all sidewalks are paved with cobblestones. We're not walking much, though.
• ATMs are the best way to get euros. They are safe and available on every corner.
• Tap water is safe everywhere.
• From June to August, temperatures can be very high (90/95F - 38/40C).
• Only euros are accepted in Portugal. No other currency is accepted in stores, markets, or cafes.
