Day 01

Lisbon Highlights from Downtown to Belém

• Our day starts from your hotel or pier, and we'll cover the downtown squares such as Rossio, Restauradores, and Liberty Avenue.
• We'll proceed towards the oldest neighbourhoods of Lisbon, such as Alfama, where we'll drive through to catch the feeling of the area or go for a short walk.
• Continue towards the Belém district to visit the Monastery of Saint Jerome (if the lines aren't too long), the Tower of Belém (photo stop and outdoor visit), and the Monument to the Discoveries (photo stop and outdoor visit).
• Drive back to your hotel, accommodation, or cruise pier.

The Monastery of Saint Jerome closes on Mondays.

Know before you go

• Lisbon is a very hilly city, and all sidewalks are paved with cobblestones. We're not walking much, though.
• ATMs are the best way to get euros. They are safe and available on every corner.
• Tap water is safe everywhere.
• From June to August, temperatures can be very high (90/95F - 38/40C).
• Only euros are accepted in Portugal. No other currency is accepted in stores, markets, or cafes.

No trip to Belém would be complete without sampling the delectable Pastéis de Belém - warm custard tarts with a light, crunchy casing, served here since 1837! I would eat 10 of these a day, but I'll leave that to you today.
