Itinerary

1. Day 01: Arrival in Mikumi National Park Morning

   • Arrival
     • Fly or drive from your location (e.g., Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam) to Mikumi National Park. If you’re flying, you’ll arrive at the nearby Mikumi Airstrip and transfer to your lodge or camp.
     • Check in to your accommodation (options range from mid-range lodges to more luxurious camps), and get settled.
   • Afternoon: First Game Drive in Mikumi
     • After lunch, head out on your first game drive in Mikumi National Park, a prime spot for wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and lions.
     • Enjoy the park’s diverse landscapes, from open savannahs to wetlands and forests, and have a chance to observe various wildlife species.
   • Evening: Relax & Dinner
     • Return to your lodge or camp in the evening for a relaxing dinner and a night in the bush.

2. Day 02: Mikumi to Selous

   • Morning game drive in Mikumi.
   • Drive to Selous (Nyerere) National Park (can be a long drive, so sometimes a flight is preferred).
   • Check in to your lodge/camp in Selous.
   • Afternoon boat safari on the Rufiji River.

3. Day 03: Transfer to Selous Game Reserve (Nyerere National Park)Morning: Travel to Selous Game Reserve

   • Morning
     • After breakfast, transfer to Selous (Nyerere National Park). This can be done via a short flight (around 1 hour) or by road (approximately 3-4 hours). Arrive at your accommodation in Selous.
     • Check in and get ready for an exciting afternoon.
   • Afternoon: Boat Safari on the Rufiji River
     • Rufiji River Boat Safari: Selous is famous for its river safaris along the Rufiji River, one of the largest in East Africa. You’ll likely see hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.
     • The boat safari provides a unique perspective of the park’s wildlife, especially water-dependent species, and it’s a relaxing way to explore the area.
   • Evening: Sundowner & Dinner
     • Return to your lodge for a sundowner on the riverbank and enjoy the sunset over the Rufiji River.
     • Dinner at your lodge or camp, followed by a relaxing evening under the African skies.

4. Day 04: Full Day in Selous Game Reserve

   • Morning: Game Drive or Walking Safari
     • Morning Game Drive: Head out early for a game drive in Selous, known for its large populations of elephants, lions, giraffes, and the rare African wild dogs.
     • Alternatively, take a walking safari with a guide, learning about the reserve's flora, fauna, and ecosystems.
   • Midday: Lunch
     • Enjoy lunch at your lodge or a picnic during your safari, with opportunities for wildlife sightings around you.
   • Afternoon: Another Safari Activity
     • You have the option to either:
       • Continue with a game drive to explore more remote areas of the reserve.
       • Participate in an optional activity like a fly-camping experience (if offered), where you can spend a night under the stars in a more adventurous setting.
   • Evening: Departure
     • After an exciting day, head back to your lodge, freshen up, and enjoy a final dinner before your evening transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, or another destination.
