Discover Samarkand's Historic Treasures
- Our city tour starts from your hotel or train station, with pickup around 9:00 am. Samarkand is the pearl of the earth, as it was said by Ibn Battuta, the Arab traveler. During the reign of Amir Timur, it was the capital of 27 countries, so there are many remarkable sights to see in Samarkand.
- Around 9:00 am, your guide will meet you at your accommodation or the train station to begin the journey into Samarkand's rich history and culture.
- First, visit the breathtaking mausoleum of Tamerlane (Amir Timur), the founder of the Timurid Empire. Marvel at the intricate design and hear fascinating stories about his legacy.
- Next, explore the heart of Samarkand - the iconic Registan Square.
- Admire the stunning architecture of the three madrassahs - Ulugh Beg Madrassah, Sher-Dor Madrassah, and Tilya-Kori Madrassah - and learn about their historical significance.
- After Registan Square, discover the grandeur of Bibi-Khanym Mosque, one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in Central Asia, built during Timur's reign.
- Lunch and break: enjoy traditional Uzbek cuisine at a local restaurant. Dishes to try include plov, shashlik, and somsa, along with refreshing green tea.
- Then continue to Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis. Wander through this awe-inspiring UNESCO World Heritage Site, admire the intricate tilework, and learn about the mausoleum's significance in Islamic culture.
- Visit the ancient Ulugh Beg Observatory, one of the greatest astronomical centers of the medieval world. Learn about Ulugh Beg's contributions to science and his passion for the stars.
