- A centerpiece of Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum has been a mecca for Egyptologists since it opened and houses some of the world’s greatest ancient relics. The museum house over 250,000 genuine artifacts, including the treasures of the most famous Egyptian pharaoh, Tutankhamen. The gold and jewelry on display was enclosed in his tomb for over 3,500 years before it was discovered in the 1920s during excavations by famous archaeologist Howard Carter.
