Day 1: Departure from Dar es Salaam to Saadani National Park
Morning:
- Departure from Dar es Salaam: Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Dar es Salaam (approximately 3-4 hours by road). The drive will take you through beautiful landscapes as you head towards Saadani National Park, Tanzania's only wildlife reserve that borders the ocean.
- Arrival at Saadani: Upon arrival, check into your accommodation, which could range from lodges to tented camps located within or near the park.
Lunch:
- Enjoy a delicious lunch at your lodge or campsite.
Afternoon:
- Game Drive in Saadani National Park: In the afternoon, embark on a game drive to explore the park's varied landscapes of savannah, riverine forests, and coastal ecosystems. Saadani is unique for its combination of marine and wildlife safaris. Here, you can spot wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, lions, and various antelopes.
- Birdwatching: The park is a haven for bird lovers, with over 300 species, including the endangered African fish eagle and pelicans.
Evening:
- Relax at the Lodge: After your afternoon safari, return to your accommodation to relax and enjoy a sundowner by the Indian Ocean, with the sounds of the waves in the background.

Day 2: Saadani National Park to Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve)
Morning:
- Early Morning Safari: Begin the day with an early morning game drive in Saadani National Park to catch the animals at their most active, especially predators like lions and wild dogs. The early morning is also a great time for birdwatching, as many species are feeding.
- Drive to Nyerere National Park: After your game drive, you'll head towards Nyerere National Park (previously part of Selous Game Reserve), one of Africa's largest and most biodiverse protected areas. This will be a 3 to 4-hour drive, depending on road conditions.
Lunch:
- Stop for lunch en route or upon arrival at your accommodation in Nyerere National Park.
Afternoon:
- Evening Safari in Nyerere National Park: Nyerere National Park is known for its expansive wilderness and wildlife diversity, including lions, elephants, wild dogs, leopards, and a wide range of herbivores. Take an afternoon game drive to explore the park’s stunning landscapes, such as riverine forests, wetlands, and savannahs.
Boat Safari on the Rufiji River: If time permits, you can take a boat safari on the Rufiji River. This is one of the highlights of visiting Nyerere National Park, offering the chance to see hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species along the riverbanks.
Evening:
- Return to the Lodge: After your game drive or boat safari, return to your lodge or camp to relax, enjoy dinner, and rest for the next day's adventure.
Overnight:

Day 3: Full Day in Nyerere National Park
Morning:
- Early Morning Safari: Begin your day with an early morning game drive to spot wildlife at its most active. The park is famous for its rich biodiversity and large populations of predators and herbivores. You may also spot elephant herds and waterbucks.
Lunch:
- Return to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch and a short rest.
Afternoon:
- Afternoon Game Drive or Boat Safari: Depending on your preference, you can choose either an afternoon game drive through the park’s dense forests and savannah or another boat safari on the Rufiji River to view hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.
- Visit to Lake Tagalala: If you have time, consider visiting Lake Tagalala, where you can see elephants and other wildlife coming to drink.
Evening:
- Return to Dar es Salaam: After your afternoon activity, you’ll begin your drive back to Dar es Salaam, arriving by late evening.
