The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Moshi and Climbing Gear Check

  • Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will meet our office representative, followed by an hour's drive to your hotel in Moshi Town.
  • After a short rest at the hotel, your mountain guide will meet you to check your climbing gear and equipment. If any gear is missing, the guide will assist you with renting the missing items from local rental shops.

Day 02

Drive to Machame Gate and Trek to Machame Camp

  • It takes a one-hour private drive to reach Machame Gate, passing through villages on the lower slopes of the mountain.
  • At the gate, you will register important details such as your name, nationality, and passport number.
  • While the registration process is taking place, the porters will sort and weigh the luggage.
  • You will also have spare time to move around, take photos, and read the historical information about Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 03

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • After breakfast at Machame Camp, you will slowly hike up to the next camp, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the moorland vegetation.
  • You will cross many streams and walk along a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau, which leads you to Shira Camp (3,840 m).
  • At the camp, you will spend the remaining time resting, having dinner, and staying overnight.

Day 04

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

  • After breakfast, leave Shira Camp and begin ascending to Barranco Camp, passing through moorland into a semi-desert and rocky landscape.
  • You will stop for a lunch break at Lava Tower (4,630 m) before descending to the camp at 3,950 m.
  • At this stage, climbers may experience the effects of high altitude, such as headaches and shortness of breath.

Day 05

Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley Camp

  • After breakfast at Barranco Camp, you will take a short hike to Karanga Camp, where you will spend the remaining time enjoying a hot lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 06

Karanga Camp to Barafu Base Camp and Summit Attempt

  • At Barafu Base Camp, you will rest, have dinner, and sleep early because you will wake at midnight for the summit attempt.
  • Around 1:00 am, the guide will wake you so you can prepare with your summit gear and warm clothes suitable for temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius.
  • Once everything is ready, the guide will slowly lead you on the summit attempt, passing Stella Point (5,685 m) on the way to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). Congratulations!
  • You have made it to the top of Africa and are now standing at Africa's highest point, Uhuru Peak.

Day 07

Uhuru Peak to Barafu Base Camp and Mweka Camp

  • The beginning of this day will find you at the peak. If the weather is good, you will be able to spend a couple of minutes there, taking beautiful sunrise photos and drinking tea from your thermal bottle before beginning the descent to Barafu Camp.
  • At Barafu Camp, you will have time to rest before continuing down to Millennium/Mweka Camp for lunch, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 08

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Return to Town

  • This marks the end of 8 days in the jungle. In the morning, you will pack all your belongings and get ready to leave the park.
  • You will see the crew organizing and sorting everything to mark the end of the tour. They will be singing, celebrating, and congratulating you on a successful climb.
  • After that, you will hike down to Mweka Gate, where you will sign out and receive certificates if you completed your summit attempt successfully.
  • An hour's drive from the gate will take you back to your hotel in town, where you can rest and prepare for the safari tour the next day.

Day 09

Full-Day Game Drive in Tarangire National Park

  • Drive from Moshi/Arusha to Tarangire National Park for a full-day game drive. In the late afternoon, exit the park and continue to Mto wa Mbu town for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 10

Ngorongoro Rim Views and Serengeti Game Drive

  • Take a long drive from Mto wa Mbu town to Serengeti National Park via the Ngorongoro Crater, with time to view the crater from the upper rim and visit a Maasai Boma while on a game drive en route to Serengeti.
  • You will enter through Serengeti's Naabi Gate in the afternoon, where you will spend about an hour on registration, lunch, and evening game drives.

Day 11

Full-Day Game Drive in Central-North Serengeti

  • The game drive will start early in the morning, giving you a chance to spot leopards, which are very rare to see during the daytime and are difficult to spot in other national parks.
  • The drive will continue into the afternoon, when you will stop briefly for lunch before continuing until late evening. Afterward, return to your lodge or campsite for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 12

Half-Day Game Drive from Serengeti to Ngorongoro

  • After breakfast, you will enjoy a half-day game drive before exiting Serengeti National Park and continuing to Ngorongoro for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay.
  • An additional visit to Olduvai Gorge is optional and requires extra payment.

Day 13

Full-Day Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater

  • After breakfast, you will begin a game drive along the rim of the crater before descending into the crater, where you will discover the wonderful nature of creation.
  • Inside the crater, you may see different species of birds, hippo pools, herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, lions, and black rhino in their natural habitat. If you are lucky, you may also spot a leopard and cheetah.
  • In the afternoon, you will stop for lunch at the picnic site near the large hippo pool. After lunch, continue the game drive until late afternoon, then drive to Karatu town for rest, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 14

Lake Manyara Game Drive and Departure

  • On this day, you will enjoy a half-day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, followed by a late afternoon drive to Arusha/Moshi town for rest and an overnight stay, or continue to the airport if your departure is on the same day.

What to bring

ESSENTIAL MOUNTAIN CLIMBING GEARS

  • Warm clothes, including trousers, sweaters, thermal underwear, and enough pairs of warm socks.
  • Balaclava, snow goggles or ski sunglasses, and a scarf.
  • Waterproof layers, a sun hat, a warm sleeping bag, a mattress, a warm jacket, and a pair of gloves.
  • Comfortable mountain boots and walking poles.
  • Sun cream, a first aid kit, a knapsack, a pair of gaiters, and a water bottle with a minimum capacity of 2 liters each.

Know before you go

When to Climb

The dry seasons are the best: June to October and December to February, when weather conditions are most favorable. Rainy seasons make the trails slippery and muddy, increasing the challenge.

Tips for a Successful Climb

  • Go with a certified guide for safety and navigation.
  • Take altitude seriously; some climbers experience mild altitude symptoms despite the shorter height.
  • Pack light but smart, including layers for changing temperatures, rain gear, and comfortable hiking boots.
  • Stay hydrated and pace yourself, especially on summit day.
  • Optional add-ons that require an additional fee:
    1. Ngorongoro Maasai Boma (cultural experience with native local society, $50 per vehicle)
    2. Arusha Snake Park & camel ride ($20 pp)
    3. Ngorongoro Olduvai Gorge (historical site & museum, $50 pp)
