Day 02

Tapanuli Orangutan Trekking in Batang Toru

  • Start the first activity after breakfast and check out of the hotel. Walk along the trail into the Batang Toru protected forest area to look for Tapanuli orangutans in the wild and explore the possibility of seeing their nesting sites. This trail has been recorded as one of the areas where orangutans are found. The forest tracking activity lasts around 4 to 6 hours.
  • At 20:30: dinner.

Day 03

Morning Nesting Site Trek and Night Wildlife Walk

  • At 05:30-07:00: enjoy a light breakfast in the tent and continue to the orangutan nesting site to observe how these primates begin their day. All trekking is based on the last sighting location and new nesting sites, but sightings of Tapanuli orangutans in the wild cannot be guaranteed because they move actively through the lowland and highland dipterocarp rainforest in the undisturbed Batang Toru Forest area.
  • During this trek, besides looking for Tapanuli orangutans, you will also enjoy birdwatching and may see other wildlife such as hornbills, songbirds, deer, gibbons, macaques, slow lorises, binturongs, raptors, and other forest animals.
  • In the evening, after dinner in the tent, continue with a short night trek to see nocturnal wildlife closer to the base camp.
  • Your nature guide will lead you through the protected forest to learn about native flora, rare primates, reptiles, and exotic birds that are active at night. The activity lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours.

Day 04

Final Forest Trek and Return to Medan

  • At 05:30-07:30: have breakfast and continue trekking along the return trail. On the way back, if there is a chance that the corpse flower is blooming, you will stop to see it or look for giant flowers of the Amorphophallus type. You may also see giant trees such as Koompassia excelsa and several types of ficus trees. The activity lasts around 5 to 7 hours.
  • Upon arrival in Sipirok or Penyabungan, the tour finishes and continues with the return drive to Medan or a transfer to the airport.
