3-Day Mahameru Summit Trek from Surabaya via Ranu Kumbolo

Meet your local tour guide in Surabaya for pick-up and transfer.

Enter Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

After registration, start trekking to the Ranu Kumbolo hiking post. Ranu Kumbolo is a lake at an altitude of 2,400 metres above sea level.

Walk for 4 hours to reach it. Take a long break and have lunch while enjoying the view and the weather by the lake.

Continue walking for approximately 3 hours to reach the Kalimati hiking post.

There, set up your first camp, have dinner, and rest for the day.

Wake up at midnight and prepare for the most difficult hike.

Eat before you go. Bring only water, a camera, some snacks, and other lightweight items.

Do not forget to bring a small backpack and a headlamp. The journey to the summit usually takes 4-5 hours, but it depends on your personal fitness level. The track has an elevation of at least 45 degrees and consists only of sand and stones. This journey will be very hard and dusty.

Once you get to the top, enjoy the view and make sure to take some pictures.

You can see the crater, but getting close to it is highly not recommended. The active volcano releases gas, and sometimes lava and burning rocks, which can fly high enough to reach the place where you stand near the crater.

Return to Kalimati base camp before 8 am, as the wind shifts at that time and blows poisonous gas from the crater onto the hiking track.

Trek back to Kalimati for a long break and breakfast, or brunch.

Pack your things and descend to Ranu Kumbolo. Have lunch and set up camp.

Enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Do not forget to take pictures.

Pack all your things because you are going back to Ranu Pane base camp.

Transfer back to Malang or Surabaya, where your journey will end.
