This great 7-day Julian Alps to Adriatic Sea tour takes you through Slovenia and Croatia, from Ljubljana to Lake Bled, the spectacular Julian Alps, Triglav National Park, and the magnificent Soča Valley. Continue through the wine region of Goriška Brda to the Slovenian Adriatic jewel of Piran, then cross into Croatia to explore the unspoiled Island of Cres and the Island of Krk. The journey also includes Plitvice National Park, Paklenica National Park, and the medieval coastal town of Zadar, with time to relax on the beach before returning to Ljubljana.

We will take a traditional Pletna boat to visit the island on the lake, where we can stroll around the island or climb 99 stairs to the small church.

Day by day

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Lake Bled, Vršič Pass and the Soča Valley

  • From Ljubljana, we will take a ride to the magnificent Lake Bled.
  • We will take a traditional Pletna boat to visit the island on the lake, where we can stroll around the island or climb 99 stairs to the small church.
  • We will go to Bled Castle, which sits on a rock above the lake. We will see the castle and enjoy spectacular views of the lake.
  • We will drive to Kranjska Gora, stop at Lake Jasna, and continue to Vršič Pass (1,611 m). We will stop to enjoy views of the beautiful high peaks of the Julian Alps around us. On the other side of the pass, we will begin descending into the unspoiled Soča Valley on a panoramic road.
  • We will drive through the wonderful Soča Valley to the town of Bovec, stopping along the way to see some of the Soča River's spectacular gorges and admire the turquoise colour of this pristine river in the heart of Triglav National Park. We will take a short walk (40 min) to the magnificent Boka Waterfall near Bovec.

Day 02

Bovec, Kobarid, Goriška Brda and Piran

  • Breakfast. We go for some white water rafting on the Soča River (optional).
  • In the afternoon, we take a ride to the small town of Kobarid, take a short walk (40 min) to the stunning Kozjek Waterfall, and visit the nearby open-air WW1 museum.
  • We proceed to the tranquil wine region of Goriška Brda, where we visit 17th-century Dobrovo Castle. There, we try quality local wine in the castle's wine cellar and enjoy the taste.
  • We finish our day in the small jewel town of Piran on the Adriatic coast.

Day 03

Piran and the Island of Cres

  • Breakfast. We make a tour of Piran, where we visit Tartini's Square, St. George's Church, and the Town Wall. We take a walk through stone-paved narrow streets and have a meal in one of the restaurants on the promenade. They serve excellent seafood and local wine.
  • In the afternoon, we take a ride and cross the border with Croatia. We embark on a ferry and take a short ferry ride to the Island of Cres, where we visit the small village of Beli. We go swimming in the sea, sunbathing on the beach, and walking through the village.
  • We proceed to the village of Lubenice, with spectacular views of the sea from the cliffs above.
  • We continue to the town of Cres, where there is no stress, as locals like to say. We will visit the town's monastery, main square, and fisherman's port, and enjoy local cuisine.

Day 04

From Cres to Krk and Senj

  • Breakfast. We take a short ferry ride from the Island of Cres to the Island of Krk. We stop at Krk town, which has the same name as the island, and make a sightseeing tour. We stroll through the old streets and see the archaeological site of Volsonis, with remains from Roman times, Frankopan Castle, which dominates the old town, and the town's old port with the main square.
  • From the town, we take a ride to a nearby secluded beach, where we relax on the beach.
  • In the afternoon, we take a ride to the town of Senj.

Day 05

Plitvice Lakes, Paklenica and Zadar

  • Breakfast. From Senj, we drive to Plitvice National Park and take a two-hour walk. We visit wonderful lakes and waterfalls and enjoy the diversity of flora and fauna.
  • We proceed to Paklenica National Park, where we enjoy great views of the surrounding mountains and canyons and observe mountain climbers along the way. Paklenica NP is a paradise for them.
  • We take a ride to the town of Zadar, where we enjoy the evening by the sea.

Day 06

Historic Zadar on the Dalmatian Coast

  • Breakfast. We take a sightseeing tour of Zadar, the oldest continuously inhabited Croatian town on the Dalmatian coast.
  • We visit Roman ruins, climb the bell tower of St. Anastasia Cathedral for some spectacular views of UNESCO's Old Town, and take a bath on one of the beaches close to the town.
  • In the evening, we enjoy the sunset at the promenade, listen to the Sea Organ, where the sea sings its own song, or enjoy the evening light show of the Greeting to the Sun art installation by the sea.

Day 07

Return from Zadar to Ljubljana

  • Breakfast. We jump into the sea one last time and go on a return road trip back to Ljubljana, Slovenia.
