Baghdad's Museums, Markets and Riverfront Heritage
- Our tour commences at the Iraqi Museum, where we immerse ourselves in ancient Mesopotamian antiquities.
- The tour continues with a captivating walking tour through the old quarters of Baghdad, including al-Mutanabbi Book Market Street, an intellectual haven.
- We also visit Mustansiriyah Madrasah, one of the earliest universities in the world.
- We stop at the century-old Shabandar Cafe for a glass of lime tea, a Baghdad specialty.
- Our path leads to the Abbasid Palace on the Tigris riverbank, known for its beautiful ornamental designs and carvings.
- We also visit another century-old juice shop that serves refreshing raisin juice and was once frequented by Iraqi kings and presidents.
- Enjoy a walk through the shops of Khan Al Mudallal Antique Market.
- A boat tour on the Tigris River follows.
- Lunch is at an old Baghdadi restaurant offering kubba, a dumpling-like Iraqi dish.
- We then stroll through the bustling bazaars of the Copper Market, Stationery Market, and Clothing Market.
- A walk through historical Rashid Street follows, once the center of Baghdad in the past century, where we see several important old mosques and buildings.
- We continue to Firdos Square, where Saddam's bronze statue was pulled down.
- Marvel at the Martyr Monument, a blue split dome built as a memorial for fallen Iraqi soldiers and officers.
- We end the tour at the iconic Freedom Monument.
