8-Day Senegal Birding Tour with Djoudj Birds Park and Podor

• En route, we will make many birding stops. It is possible to see Vinaceous Dove, Yellow-crowned Gonolek, Chestnut-bellied Starling, Blue-naped Mousebird, Red-billed Hornbill, Long-tailed Glossy Starling, and some vultures such as the Lappet-faced and Hooded Vultures.

Stay overnight at Ranch De Bango or Lampsar Lodge.

• We will also explore another birding site of great interest, Les Trois Marigots, where we can spot Ruff, Black-winged Stilt, and Black-headed Lapwing.
• Then, we will drive northwards towards the edge of the Sahara, where some key species await us while crossing the acacia forest. Among those species are the iconic Cricket Longtail and Golden Nightjar. Around Podor, it is also easy to see Sudan Golden Sparrow, Black Scrub Robin, Sennar Penduline Tit, and more.

Dinner and overnight stay at Gête d'Etape.

• We head northwards to Richard Toll and Podor. In Podor, we are very much at the edge of the Sahara Desert. The landscape is mainly composed of acacias, and here we can see Tawny-flanked Prinia, flocks of Sudan Golden Sparrow, Cricket Warbler, Sennar Penduline Tit, Grey Woodpecker, Black Scrub Robin, and more.
• Eat lunch in Richard Toll, and then we will drive to Podor.

Dinner and overnight stay at Gite D'Etape.

• The morning will be dedicated to birdwatching in the most important bird habitat in Northern Senegal, the Djoudj Birds Reserve, where 320 species of birds have been recorded. Here, we can see River Prinia, White-faced Whistling Ducks, Garganey, Spur-winged Geese, greater and lesser Flamingoes, Knob-billed Geese, great flocks of White Pelicans, African Darter, African Fish Eagle, and more.
• Eat lunch at NDiagabaar Camp, and in the afternoon, we will go on a boat ride to see pelicans and other bird species.

Dinner and overnight stay at Ranch De Bango, Cap Saint Louis, or Lampsar Lodge.

• We will make some stops on the way to Kaolack. In this arid area, we can see many vultures, including Lappet-faced Vultures, Rüppel's Griffon Vultures, White-backed Vultures, and the most common, Hooded Vultures.
• Eat lunch in Kaolack at the Blue Bird Restaurant, and in the afternoon, we head to Kousmar, where we are supposed to spot the Scissor-tailed Kite.

Dinner and overnight stay at Auberge Les Coquillages or a similar place.

We will plan our birding tour according to the tides. Low tide is the best time to see the iconic Tiger-crested Heron. We will take a boat ride at low tide to look for this and other iconic birds.

• In the afternoon, we continue birding on our way to Toubacouta. Here, we will spot Blue-bellied Roller, Bronze Mannikin, Pearl-spotted Owl, Lavender Waxbill, Bearded Barbet, Violet-backed Starling, Western Grey Plantain-eater, Rose-ringed Parakeet, Wire-tailed Swallow, and more.

Dinner and overnight stay at Auberge Les Coquillages or Hotel Chez Saloum.
