Itinerary
-
Day 1: Zanzibar to Arusha City
- Upon arrival at Arusha Airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to Karibu Heritage as part of your package. The hotel provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay, including cosy rooms, hot water, friendly staff, a swimming pool, and free Wi-Fi.
- In the evening, your mountain guide will brief you and ensure you are prepared for the climb.
-
Day 2: Arusha City to Mandara Hut
- In the morning, a guide will briefly meet you at the hotel before driving you to Kilimanjaro National Park's eastern entrance, Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft).
- After completing the necessary formalities for climbing permits and registration with the search and rescue service, the group will trek to Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft). Given the trek’s passage through the rainforest, bring spare clothes and raincoats, as tropical showers are likely.
- Upon arrival, the mountain support crew will take care of you and prepare lunch.
Follow these instructions for your first day at altitude:
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
- Drink more than 3 litres of bottled water daily (slowly and frequently).
-
Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo hut
- After an early breakfast, depart Mandara Hut for Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,204ft), the second high-altitude camp.
- Upon arrival, enjoy views of two volcanoes: Kibo and Mawenzi.
- After lunch, complete an acclimatization hike towards Kibo Hut, gaining 200 meters (656 feet) in altitude before returning to Horombo Hut for dinner.
-
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
- Following breakfast, trek to Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft). The trek is not difficult, but maintaining a steady pace is crucial to conserve energy for the final summit climb.
- Upon reaching Kibo Hut, have lunch, rest as much as possible, avoid strenuous activity, and drink plenty of water.
-
Day 5: Summit Night
- Depart Kibo Hut (4,700m/15,419ft) at night to climb to Kilimanjaro’s summit, Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft). While the trek is technically moderate, the altitude will make physical activity challenging. Each climber will be paired with a guide to monitor stamina and mental strength.
- After reaching Uhuru Peak, descend to the nearest glacier, then return to Kibo Camp for a two-hour rest before descending to Horombo Hut (3,720m/12,205ft).
Please note:
Don't forget that 90% of all accidents occur during the descent, including most broken arms and legs. Please pay attention to your feet, as there is a high risk of damaging your toenails. -
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Arusha City
- In the morning, enjoy a hot breakfast before departing for Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,102ft).
- After descending, the group will gather to celebrate, and you can share your thoughts in the guestbook. You will receive your commemorative certificate and be transported back to the hotel, where you can either book a safari or continue with your plans.
