Day 01

Arrival in Windhoek and River Crossing Lodge Stay

Day 1: Hosea Kutako International Airport - River Crossing Lodge

Your shuttle driver will welcome you at Hosea Kutako International Airport and drive you to your destination. River Crossing Lodge offers a serene blend of blissful, undisturbed nature and comfortable modern amenities. The lodge is located on a pristine 6,500-hectare reserve that is home to 19 different species of game, while being only a 5-minute drive from the heart of Windhoek.

After checking in, get ready for a drive through the capital city. We will be visiting the local street markets, craft markets, and the township of Katutura.

Once you arrive back at the lodge, get ready for a spectacular sunset from the terrace before dinner.

Day 02

Journey to Swakopmund and Free Time by the Coast

Departure for Swakopmund after breakfast, with arrival expected in the afternoon.

The rest of the day will be free, with plenty of time to explore the town. Swakopmund is a very pleasant seaside town with lots of shops, a good stretch of beach, although the Atlantic is quite cold here, and an open-air curio market. There is also a very good museum, and the Namibian National Marine Aquarium is located in Swakopmund. Alternatively, there are various optional activities that can be arranged.

These include a boat tour with oysters and champagne, scenic flights and microlight flights over the desert, fishing trips either from the beach or by boat, quad bike trips into the desert and over the sand dunes around Swakopmund, sandboarding, skydiving, and many other activities. Your guide will discuss all the possible optional activities with you and offer to make pre-bookings in advance. Please note that all extra activities in Swakopmund are subject to availability and are at the client's own risk and expense.

Dinner today is not included in the cost of the safari and will be at the client's own expense.

Day 03

Swakopmund Activities and Drive to Weldevrede Guest Farm

After a leisurely breakfast, guests have time until 12 pm for some activities before departure. This could be quad biking, sandboarding, a dolphin cruise, or a scenic flight along the Skeleton Coast while spotting ancient shipwrecks.

A special treat is a trip to Walvis Bay to see the world-famous flamingoes in the lagoon, which is a protected RAMSAR birding site.

Please note: optional activities are at your own expense and are not included in the tour rate.

Leave Swakopmund at 12h00 and drive to Weldevrede Guest Farm near Sesriem. We will travel via Kuiseb Pass and Gaub Pass, stopping to stretch your legs and take photos at the Tropic of Capricorn Crossing.

Arrive at Weldevrede Guest Farm in the late afternoon, settle into your accommodation, and enjoy a sunset walk that showcases the sunset over the Namib Naukluft Mountains.

Day 04

Early Sossusvlei Excursion and Relaxation in Solitaire

This morning, we have a very early start for our guided excursion to Sossusvlei. We want to leave our lodge well before sunrise to ensure we are among the first to enter the national park. From Sesriem, we continue into the desert area, where the early morning light provides excellent photography opportunities. Once we arrive at the 4x4 parking area, we can explore this area on foot, with a walk around Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei.

Solitaire Country Lodge, Namibia, is hidden away in the small settlement of Solitaire in the middle of the Namibian desert. It is a lodge that consists of a petrol station, workshop, village shop, gift shop, and the wonderfully flavour-filled Moose McGregor's Bakery. Enjoy the rest of the day relaxing at the pool and the bar.

5
Day 05

Cheetah Sanctuary Visit and Return to Windhoek

After breakfast, guests are taken to the Solitaire Wildlife Sanctuary for endangered cheetahs. These are orphaned or injured cheetahs that have been rescued but cannot be released back into their natural habitat for various reasons.

Guests are taken on a 1-hour drive around the sanctuary in an open safari vehicle, meeting the cheetahs and learning more about this beautiful species. Photographs with certain cheetahs are allowed.

The tour departs for Windhoek after the activity. End of tour. Lunch and dinner at the hotel are at your own expense.

Please note: avoid booking flights out of Windhoek that depart before or close to 17h00 for this tour.

Know before you go

  • Namibia is a safe and stable country boasting modern infrastructure and facilities and one of the cleanest and neatest African capitals. Still, be careful, remain alert, and closely watch your belongings.
  • Namibia is an excellent holiday destination due to the favourable currency, which means that most international travellers can get luxury accommodation and transportation at a fraction of the price in their own country.
  • Although most parts of Namibia are malaria-free, travellers heading north of Windhoek (and towards the Caprivi) must consult their doctors about anti-malaria medication.
  • Banking hours at most commercial banks are Monday to Friday from 09h00 to 15h30 and on Saturday from 08h00 to 11h00. ATMs are found throughout Namibia's major city centres and shopping complexes. The currency is the Namibian Dollar, where NAD1 comprises 100 cents. Please check with your hotel for daily exchange rates. Foreign currencies such as the USD are widely accepted. Most restaurants, shops, and hotels accept Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, and American Express. Proof of identity may be requested, so always carry a passport or some form of photo identification. Credit cards are not accepted at petrol stations.
  • You should check with your tour operator or hotel concierge - they will know if there are any potentially unsafe areas along your travel route.
  • For self-drive guests in Namibia, all vehicles on the road have to drive with their headlights on at all times of the day. It is wise to avoid deserted areas, particularly at night, and if you are on a self-drive adventure, please ensure your car is locked at all times - park in well-lit, busy areas.
  • Dress down (i.e. don't wear excessive jewellery) when exploring Africa's diverse cities. Concealed travel wallets are recommended. Stopping for hitchhikers is not recommended.
  • Please be sensitive when photographing people. Namibians are renowned for being friendly; however, it is courteous to ask permission before snapping away.
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) are not allowed in any of the conservation areas we manage until their impact on wildlife and anti-poaching initiatives can be assessed. This rule will apply throughout Africa, as our partners in various countries and regions have adopted a similar stance.
  • Guests visiting Namibia must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of travel and should have two blank pages available in their passport. Visitors who intend to travel to Namibia's neighbouring countries and back are advised to apply for multiple-entry visas.
  • Bear in mind that Namibia is a country of high temperatures. In summer, the mercury may reach 40°C/104°F, and even winter temperatures are as high as 25°C/77°F.
  • It is always a good idea to have a record of your passport number, airline tickets, and traveller's cheques.
  • Do not leave your baggage or luggage unattended.
