Day 01

Lisbon's Historic Quarters and Belém Landmarks

• Visit the Alfama district, Lisbon's oldest quarter, and stroll through its cobblestone streets.
• Continue to Rossio Square, the historic centre of Lisbon, and hear fascinating stories about the city's rise to fame in the 15th and 16th centuries, when explorers set out on maritime conquests.
• Pass by Comércio Square in downtown Lisbon. This is where the Republic was proclaimed on October 5, 1910, in Praça do Município next to Terreiro do Paço. On February 18, 1957, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom disembarked at Cais das Colunas during her visit to Portugal.
• Head towards the Jerónimos Monastery and admire the extravagant Manueline architectural style that defines this city.
• Experience the wonders of the Belém area, with a stop at Belém Tower, the departure point for some of the Portuguese maritime explorations, as well as the Monument to the Discoveries, built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator.
