The itinerary

1
Day 01

Journey to Maniti Lodge and Monkey Island

  • Depart in the morning from Iquitos City by auto.
  • Arrive in the port town of Nanay (Bellavista), where the Rio Nanay meets the Rio Amazonas.
  • Depart by boat and travel downriver 70 km (about 2 hours).
  • Spot caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, snakes, and many other species of flora and fauna along the riverbank during the riverboat trip.
  • Visit Monkey Island - a small island about 15 minutes from the Maniti Lodge - which shelters many monkeys in their natural habitat, offering a unique opportunity to observe and interact with a wide variety of monkeys, including the Sloth, Goeldi's monkey, Tamarin monkey, Capuchin monkey, Yellow-Handed Titi monkey, Masked Titi monkey, Cebidae monkey, Wooly monkey, Squirrel monkey, Spider monkey, South American Coati monkey, and many more.
  • Hold huge anacondas and boas, and interact with the unique and rare Amazonian Mata-Mata turtle.
  • See alligators, turtles, toucans, macaws, parrots, and more.
  • Take part in the dolphin-watching session at the camp to see the pink freshwater dolphin.
  • Swim with the dolphins in the main Amazon River.
  • Go on a nocturnal nature hike to see what types of species can be seen in the evening, including lizards, snakes, spiders, and monkeys.

Day 02

Sunrise Wildlife Viewing and Fishing Excursion

  • See the sunrise over the Amazon River.
  • Leave the camp for an animal observation excursion by boat.
  • Go on an afternoon fishing excursion by boat, with the opportunity to encounter piranha, catfish, and other fish species.
  • Spot Victoria Regia - the largest freshwater aquatic plant in the world.
  • Go on an excursion after sunset by canoe to spot a caiman.

Day 03

Palo Alto Mirador Jungle Exploration

  • Take a morning jungle hike (30-45 minutes) to Palo Alto Mirador.
  • Have a bird's-eye view of the lowland Peruvian Amazon from 5, 10, and 15 meters above ground.
  • Spend the night observing various wildlife species in their natural habitat.
  • Go on a daytime exploration of the area, including hiking, canoe rides in the lagoon, and fishing on demand.
  • Take a nighttime nature walk to see what species can be seen, including reptiles, spiders, and monkeys.

Overnight stay at the top observation deck of Palo Alto, either in a tent or in hammocks.

Day 04

Morning Jungle Walk and Return to Iquitos

  • Take an early morning jungle hike to see many monkeys, birds, and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
  • Learn about various types of Amazonian plants.
  • Depart from Maniti Lodge.
  • Visit a local native of the Indian tribe to learn about and observe their history and customs.
  • Transfer to the airport or hotel.

Know before you go

  • We do not have weight restrictions for luggage, but we kindly request that each guest limit their luggage to 23 kg or 50 lb. If your luggage weighs more than this, you can store the extra luggage in Iquitos at our office in our secure storage room until your trip is over.
  • You'll be sharing a room with the people in your reservation. Each room comes with a private bathroom for your comfort. We offer single rooms for solo travelers, as well as double, triple, and quadruple rooms. Your room will only be shared with the guests in your booking. The tours are also shared exclusively between you and the other guests staying at our lodge.
  • Transfers: We offer pick-up services from Iquitos airport (between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM) or any hotel within Iquitos city. Transfers are included only on the day the tour begins. At the end of your tour, we can drop you off at Iquitos airport or at a location in Iquitos city.
