Drive to Andasibe and Nocturnal Wildlife Walk
Day 1: Antananarivo → Peyrieras → Moramanga lunch → Andasibe → Night walk
07:00am – Departure from Antananarivo
Pick up from your hotel in Antananarivo and drive east on RN2 toward Andasibe. The drive usually takes about 3.5 to 4.5 hours total depending on traffic and stops. Along the way, you’ll pass rural villages, rice fields, forested hills, and roadside markets.
09:30–10:30am – Peyrieras Reptile Reserve (Madagascar Exotic)
Stop for about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes at Peyrieras near Marozevo. This is a good first wildlife stop to see chameleons, geckos, frogs, snakes, butterflies, and sometimes lemurs in a small, easy-to-visit reserve. It’s a short but very rich visit, especially if you want close-up photos of Madagascar’s reptiles and amphibians.
12:00–13:00pm – Lunch at Lucas restaurant in Moramanga
Continue to Moramanga for lunch, usually around 1 hour. This is a convenient stop before reaching Andasibe. You can relax, have Malagasy or simple international food, and prepare for the afternoon visit.
13:30–15:30pm – Transfer to Andasibe and hotel check-in
Drive onward to Andasibe and settle into your hotel. Depending on your accommodation, this can take 30–60 minutes after lunch. You’ll have a short rest before the afternoon activity.
16:00–17:30 – Optional nature walk or hotel surroundings
If time and energy allow, you can do a light walk near the lodge or in the forest edge area. This is a calm time to enjoy the rainforest atmosphere, birds, and vegetation before night activities.
18:30–19:30 – Night walk
Join a guided night walk for about 1 hour. This is one of the best ways to see Madagascar’s nocturnal wildlife. You may spot mouse lemurs, chameleons, frogs, geckos, and other night-active animals. Bring a flashlight and comfortable walking shoes; the experience is different from a daytime park visit because the forest becomes much more active at night.
